With exceptionally finely carved and gilded frames with fluted supports enhanced with floral decoration, acanthus leaves and embellished with Greek coin bordering. The spring bow-front seats and backs are covered in excellent condition soft pale mint silk damask of fruits and flowers. Louis XVI Style also known as āLouis Seizeā, was a style of architecture, decoration and art developed during the reign of Louis XVI (1774-1793). Inspired by the discoveries of ancient Roman paintings, sculpture and the architecture of Herculaneum and Pompeii. It was a desire to establish a new ideal of beauty based on classical notions of purity and grandeur of the art of the Ancient Romans and Greeks.
